Cauliflower - Broccoli Cheese Bake

Ngā Hau e Whā has two garden boxes, we share between our tūākana and our taina. The vegetables' that we have been growing are cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, parsley, lettuce, silver-beet, and cabbage.

From our garden we picked some cauliflower, broccoli and parsley to make 'Cauliflower Broccoli Cheese Bake'.

• Vegetables were washed and cut 
• Blanched in boiled salted water
• Drained and place in an oven proof dish
• Cheese & Parsley sauce was made poured over the veges'
• Sprinkle grated cheese 
• Baked in oven for 30min until golden brown

What's been happening in Akomanga 1 so far this term. In the last two weeks we have had a follow on from last year about 'Water Line' with Whaea Adrianne. On Wednesday we got to visit the Chapel Street Water Treatment Plant. What a very interesting place to see where all our waste goes.


This is taken just before we went into the plant.

Second shot, they have a tuff security system to enter,  as they have very dangerous chemicals on site, and for safety reasons, so people working on the ground have to swipe their cards. When we entered Whaea Adrianne had to count how many tamariki we had and how many adults were in our group.

3rd shot; Whaea Andrianne taking us through all the safety rules, and we had to especially stay behind her at all times. Thank you to Whaea Los for coming along with us. 

4th shot; This is one of the tanks being cleaned, the workers blocked this part off as the dust that is being sprayed up from their blasting can be a hazard and hard to breathe if we were to go in and and have a look.

 5th shot; here we were looking down at one of the tanks being water blasted. These tanks are cleaned every 4months. It was very noisy.

Here we are at school on our last day with Whaea Andrianne. We were asked how much water would we use in a household?
The answer is 480 litres per day that we would use in a household.

Kei mihi mātou kia Whaea Andrianne for taking us through the Water Line this term. We have learnt so much about where and how we use our water in New Zealand. She also said that 

Tauranga has the best water in the World.

Kauhoe

Hi there, we are very lucky to be going to our local community swimming pool for swimming lessons. The first week is nearly completed and we look forward to the improving results next week.

Tā Mātou Akomanga

Nau mai haere ki tā mātou whārangi. We are called Ngā Hau e Whā,  Years 4, 5 , 6,  and we are a Reorua Māori akomanga (bilingual class). We have 21 tamariki in our akomanga. Matua Paora is our Pouako and Whaae Tarnz is our Kaiawhina. Come and check out what we have been up to.

As promised a selection of mako from some of our girls in akomanga 1.  We have had many comments about the detail and shading of each mako.

Had an awesome afternoon using Art Snacks. Our tamariki in akomanga one sketched a white pointer mako as part of our taketanga on 'TANGAROA' . Some sketches will be posted shortly. Certainly a lot of talented artists at 'Te Kura o Tutarawananga'
